The Background
One of Ireland’s leading baby food formula manufacturer wished to enhance the seal inspection on their baby food formula cartons. Having traditionally used standard sensors to inspect points along the seal they now wished to inspect the presence and position of the seal along the complete circumference of the carton.
The Solution
Having evaluated the application ATC Automation proposed using an Omron FH vision controller along with a standard resolution monochrome camera and a DOAL light. This system was fully integrated on the line by ATC’s Vision Services Engineers to perform the complete circumference test on the presence and position of the seal as requested by the customer. A reject signal from the system was enabled to perform rejects on the cartons if they failed the seal presence and position check.
The Future
The integrated vision system provided by ATC allows the baby food formula manufacturer to enhance product quality assurance. The system can inspect up to 200 cartons per minute which can cope with expected customer demand in the medium to long term.
